| Stardate 44534 |
The Argus telescope does not send data anymore. All attemps to reestablish contact fail. The array does not respond anymore, therefore a malfunction is supposed. The USS Enterprise-D is commissioned to repair it, but needs several months to reach the facility due to its distant location. |
| Stardate 44704 |
The USS Enterprise-D arrives at the phalanx, which is in a critical condition now: the main computer fails and the fusion reactors malfunction; the subspace antenna groups, however, are still working. Nevertheless, the repair time is estimated at 2-3 weeks, since every single reactor has to be separated from the damaged control system before it can be repaired (default isolation procedure) |

In the meantime, the reason for the defects have been found: an alien probe of unknown structure, which has put the main computer out of action, destabilizing the fusion reactors. |
Before the repairs are completed, the reactor 9 destabilizes until an overload is imminent; the condition of reactors 5,7 and 14 is critical as well. The consequence of an explosion would be a chain reaction that would destroy the entire array. Due to the quick intervention of Lt. Reginald Barclay, an engineer of the Enterprise-D who has been influenced by the alien probe, however, the fusion reactors can be deactivated and the array stabilized in the nick of time. |
