Stardate 20428	With the beginning of the Galaxy project, together with five other starships the new starship Enterprise is planned and constructed in the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards in the orbit of Mars.

Stardate 27422	First parts of the spaceframe of the USS Enterprise are completed on Utopia Planitia.
2358	A first spaceworthy version of the Enterprise leaves space dock and is tested and improved in the next years.

Stardate 40759.5	The Enterprise-D is comissioned as the third starship of the Galaxy class in the Utopia Planitia Starfleet Yards, Mars. The command of the the vessel will be assigned to Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Stardate 41365.9	Due to problems with the computer runtime behaviour and the holodeck the Enterprise docks at Starbase 74 for improvement and maintenance.

Stardate 41124	Captain Jean-Luc Picard assumes command of the USS Enteprise. Still, the ship is understaffed in key positions; first officer, chief engineer and medical officer will come aboard in the course of the first mission.
Stardate 41153	The Enterprise-D departs for her first mission, the assessment of Farpoint Station on Deneb IV, which has been built by the Bendi for the Federation. During the mission, the crew makes first contact with the omnipotent being Q.

Stardate 43989 - 44012	When the Borg invade Federation space, the Enterprise-D is heavily damaged at the encounter with the Borg cube: the warp drive is damaged, the main deflector destroyed, Captain Picard kidnapped and assimilated, therefore the first officer Riker takes over command. After the forced attack on the Federation fleet near Wolf 359, the crew suceeds in rescueing Picard. After the cube has been destroyed with his help, he assumes command again.

Stardate  44012 - 44126	The heavily damaged Enterprise is repaired for six weeks in the McKinley Earth Station.

Stardate 46357- 46360	During the secret Celtris mission, Captain Edward Jellico assumes command of the Enterprise. In the course of the mission, Captain Picard is taken hostage and tortured by the Cardassians. After Picard has been freed, the starship is put under his command again.

Stardate 47135 - 47225	After the mysterious disappearing of Captain Picard, the command of the Enterprise is assigned to Commander Riker. When Picard, who has been declared death, is found and freed, he assumes command again.

Stardate 48650	Attempting to prevent the destruction of the Veridian system by Dr. Tolian Soran the Enterprise is attacked by Soran's allies, the outlawed Duras sisters. The engineering section is destroyed after a warp core breach, and the saucer section crashes on Veridian III due to the resulting shock wave. All crew members are rescued by three starships, among them the USS Farragut, from the surface of the planet. The saucer section of the Enterprise, however, has been irreparably damaged by the crash and cannot be salvaged.
