The creator, author and webmaster of the Star Trek Dimension, was born on November 28th, 1981 in Germany. He has attended school for 12 years, and recovered at civil service for one year afterwards . He currently studies media computer science.
Since 1993, the author is a Star Trek fan, having been "recruited" by the early airing of "Star Trek: The Next Generation". This is still his favorite series, as it represents the various facets of Trek best to his mind, and is a sucessful mix of classic Trek philosophy and excellently written, thought-provoking stories. However, over the years he has begun to love the Original Series and Voyager as much as "his" TNG, and he's especially fond of the issue- and moral-focused VOY stories continuing the Trek tradition and the likeable characters of this series. DS9 is the Trek series he can't get along with too well as in his opinion, the series has shifted its focus over the years (particularly after the great 4th season) too much to "realistic" politics, fantasy elements and large conflicts, and has more or less given up the episodic format in favor of serialized, character-driven story arcs in the end.
The author's love for Trek was a result of his interest in sciences & technology and science fiction like the utopian novels of Jule Verne or classic sci fi movies ("Forbidden Planet"). This is why the science fiction, the utopia, the vision of a humanistic-scientific, rational and optimistic view of the world on the one hand and the exploration of the human being and its further development, the triumph of the human spirit with the exploration of deep space, the emotional and mental impact of the saga (think of "sense of wonder" and promoting hope and confidence) on the other hand the most important aspects of Trek. This does not mean, however, that the fascinating technologies, starships and great special effects wouldn't appeal to him .
Otherwise, Star Trek has also inspired him and still increased his interest in astronomy and philosophy.
The general fields the author is interested in are various; from time to time, he deals with astrophysics, philosophy (classic Greek views, the revolutionary achievements of the Enlightenment and especially Kantian ethics) and linguistics, i.e. with the languages and writing systems of the world.
Indeed, thanks to his activities in the internet (website, surfing, bulletin boards etc.), English has (almost) become his second mother tongue. Moreover, he has learned French and Latin, but doesn't know too much about this anymore. One of his dreams is learning Japanese, however, due to little time this can take some time. At least he can already read and write in the most common syllable alphabet, hiragana.
Generally, the author is fascinated by foreign cultures, their varying ways and views of life, and likes to travel to foreign (preferrably hot ) countries.
Since the age of 10, he's a great computer freak, and a very creative, artistically focused guy for an even longer time. Because of this, computer design (no matter if web design, 3D modeling or image editing) his definite passion, as this website, which he's been improving and extending since 1997, undoubtedly proves.
Beside the rather scientific fields, the author has, of course, "normal" hobbies as well, although there's too little time for everything, as you might imagine. He has the manic habit to keep everything and everybody for posterity with a digital camera (well, it's not that extreme ), meets with his friends and, as a film freak, regularly watches sci fi, horror and action movies on the big screen with them. He's not watching much tv anymore (except Trek), though, as he's much more appealed by the infinite possibilities of the internet (and he has - of course - most of his favorite movies on DVD ). Here he prefers the same, above mentioned genres - what doesn't mean, however, that he wouldn't like some cerebral dramas and rather "serious" movies with a strong moral or philosophic background.
Some of his favorite films are, beside the "Star Trek" feature films, science fiction movies like "Contact", "Forbidden Planet", "Dune", "Flash Gordon", "The Fifth Element", horror movies like the "Alien" trilogy and "Event Horizon", historical films and dramas set in different countries like "The Last Emperor" and "Empire of the Sun", action movies like "Tomorrow Never Dies", comedies and others.
Even if he hasn't been a fan of kids cartoons anymore for a long time, he has become very fond of "adult series" with funny as well as serious background like the cult series "Futurama" and "The Simpsons".
Due to his interest in the Japanese culture he has watched many animes in the last years, where the series "Neon Genesis Evangelion", regarded one of the best anime productions ever, excited him most.
Regarding music, he prefers modern genres just as traditional ones, while he especially likes early Rock 'n Roll of the 50s and 60s, movie music and (very surprising ) Asiatic genres.
The author suffers from a distinct passion for collecting things, be it magazines, books or music files and his hard disk as well as his immediate environment have become quite... difficult to manage places because of this.
He is a human of the 21st century, who's fascinated and excited of the possibilities of his time, the powerful technologies, but also the working and growing together of mankind because of it. As a convinced, pacifistically orientated humanist, he recognizes the need of the personal growing of Man and does not share the fatalism and pragmatism of many of his fellow humans, but believes - quite Star Trek like - believes in the good things in life (and Man) and idealistically looks into the future.
