Star Trek Cartography Back to the Cartography overview

April 2001

Apr 29th Exclusively in the Star Trek Dimension! The astrometrics map from Voyager's season 7 is now avaiable in the maps archive.

February 2001

Feb 14th As the second overview, the table "The route of the USS Voyager" has been updated and the coordinates improved in precision because of the use of more exact base values. Also, the corresponding Cartography chapter "Voyager's journey" has been changed and extended by an updated conclusion with new figures from season 7 of Star Trek: Voyager.
Feb 12th After the Star Trek Cartography hasn't been updated for months because of the many other Star Trek Dimension sections, now extensive changes are to come. As the first step of an update project which will lead to a completely new, up to now missing chapter about the Star Trek Cartography and finally even a new Star Trek atlas, the front page and the cartography logo have been newly designed and the texts, data and graphics of the overview "Positions of the real stars" have been completely reworked. Beside 4 new real stars and - for the first time - deep sky objects (nebula et al.), the figures of almost all stars were considerably improved in precision. Most distances are now taken from the highly-precise Hipparcos catalogue (precision up to 3 decimal places), and for the first time galactic coordinates have been calculated from the Earth-bound celestical coordinates from this catalogue (precision up to 2 decimal places). Moreover, the descriptions on the table have been revised and, on the basis of the new data, six sophisticated star maps have been created. Also, the VRML 3D view of the stars has been recreated for version 4.

May 2000

May 1st In the largest Cartography update since the online launch of this project nearly 8  months ago, I have completely restructed, redesigned and reworked the whole project. The German update of this update has already been uploaded two months ago, and now I have managed to translate the extensive files, which now altogether contain about 25,000 words. To summarize all changes: the division into chapters was altered, the design has adapted to the new Star Trek Dimension design, the frontpage has been completely redesigned, resembling the main frontpage, new auxiliary pages like this news page have been added, all existing chapters have been revised, brought up to date (until [VOY] Live Fast and Prosper) and corrected, if necessary. Of course, there are also many new chapters and new  subsections in the existing chapters, which have been extended by new material or formerly preliminary material from the resources.
Newly added chapters: The Star Trek Cartography, The cartographer's tools, The division of the Star Trek Galaxy.
Heavily extended chapters: A tour through the Milky Way, The United Federation of Planets and The journey of Voyager
Further changes: The List of Star Trek distances was updated to version 7.0 and now contain more than 70 figures; six new maps from the Dominion war arc and the "Final Chapter" of Deep Space Nine were added to the maps archive.
